On Digital Workspaces – inchoate thoughts while working on my new ePortfolio

The process of redesigning my ePortfolio page to be more of a one-stop place for everything related to me on the web has had me thinking about work spaces lately. Rather than titling it “ePortfolio,” I think I want to call it “The Digital Workspace of Benjamin Lainhart.” Or maybe “Digital Office.”

My thinking is this: The site will contain a bio, CV, professional interests and everything a normal Portfolio includes. However, it will also contain a blog as well as links and widgets for all my active social media outlets (and my Social Media Policy). As a proto-librarian I see my job to be centered around information and information sharing. Currently, this is how I do a lot of that. I have had a productive day when I have read a lot of interesting and thought-provoking things, wrote a bit (not necessarily published) and connected with other people. Since this is increasingly done online, I want my new portfolio site to be almost like stopping into my “office” for a discussion.

In my attempt to create this site I have been thinking about how and where I work best and what is required for a productive creative environment. More importantly, how do I transfer that to a digital space that will not only be a Portfolio site for employers, but a place where I can work, publish and interact as well?
